Tag Heuer Sunglasses Rubber

I bought a Tag Hueur Sunglasses many years back and if I'm not mistaken it was on 2008. So it has been about 6 years now.

Well this post is about what will happen to it after such a long infrequent use. I like it because it is very comfortable and the design looks good. Reason is comfort because the frame is made of rubber but problem is the material doesn't last. I was told that the rubber is the same material used in the F1 race tire and that is why it is so costly.

I think sometime last year the rubber start to "melt" and become sticky and if you put your nose close enough you actually smell the rubber burned smell.. Although it doesn't melt completely, the frame start to be very soft and getting out of shape but still wearable just not so nice. Anyway me and my itchy hand tend to squeeze the melted frame as I am pretty fed up how it looks and already in plan to buy a new sunglasses but definitely not this model anymore.

I did ask around shops to replace the rubber frame and it is freaking as expensive. It cost almost the same as getting a new pair... so far I was quoted for RM900 just for that rubber where a new pair will cost about RM1150.. so you decide.... I am still looking if any shop can replace it around RM500 or should I get a new pair from Ray Ban or Porsche.

I did a search on Google, it seems many others have the same issue.. Well I am not really complaining after all it has been 6 years but I thought it would have last a bit longer.. as far I as I know the rubber compound on tire doesn't melt.

some said is due to sweat? maybe
