Makan Makan in Qatar - Ruby Wu

Ruby Wu at Radisson Blue or Ramada Hotel is one of the few Chinese restaurant in Doha. As I know Ruby Wu is pretty well known Chinese restaurant.

First impression to the restaurant is ok. The decor is pretty nice and the restaurant is about 60% packed.

I had a mushrooms soup, pan froed cod fish, stir fry duck with walnut and stir fry rice noodles. Being a Chinese testing out the food, I would say is just average according to my taste bud.

So, I unlikely will patron there again in the near future or I should say I don't have the chance again as I dont know when I return to Doha.

Makan Makan in Hong Kong - Ah Yat Abalone

My very time having dinner at Ah Yat Abalone. I have always pass by this restaurant at Genting Highland but never dine in as I heard is pretty expensive but didn't expect it is that expensive until today I had my dinner at the restaurant at Hong Kong.

This is my very first HKD 8000 abalone  stuffed into my mouth. It does taste very different from other abalone but then I don't think I want to spend so much money on a abalone again. It really a shocking experience hehe.

Makan Makan in Qatar - Fish Corner

Seems to be a new restaurant as I have not seen it before. It is located exactly opposite of tgif c ring road. The food is good but dont order their appetizer.

Price is pretty ok.. for seafood restaurant.

Makan Makan in Dubai - Din Tai Fung Mall of Emirates

Din Fai Fung just open a branch at Dubai Mall of Emirates 3 months ago. It is jam pack with peoples.

Food price slightly more expensive but taste is pretty ok.

The menu are almost the same as in Singapore or Malaysia except the obvious no pork.. but for a Chinese restaurant at middle east I would say this is considerably good and affordable

Makan Makan in Qatar - Dapurku Berasap

This eatery place is relative new or I just got to know. Unlike Kak Ipah or Dapur Nora, the owner post their menu at Malaysians In Qatar group.  And so we went to try out today and I would say is cheap but for the taste it wasn't that great. It is better than Puti Bungsu but then Kak Ipah is still the best Malaysian food follow by Dapur Nora and Kafe Ole at Holiday Villa.

Makan Makan In Qatar - Dapor Nora

This place is having the same concept as Kak Ipah which along Salwa road.  Dapor Nora is located somewhere at Gharafa  and the same thing search for dapor Nora at FB to get more details about their menu and timing.

Makan Makan In Qatar - Kak Ipah

For Asians and especially Malaysian, you can get traditional Malay breakfast at Kak Ipah at Doha.

Kak Ipah is the name of the lady chef I assume. And on most Fridays she will sell Malaysian breakfast mainly Malay cuisine to all.

There is plenty of variety and the food taste just like home. I can't post everything here but what you can do is search kak ipah from Facebook to go to their fb page and they will update the page a day before whether they are operating on Friday as well as the menu. I suggest to go early around 8 and queue or try go around 930 to 10.

Makan Makan In Qatar - Applebees

Went to Applebees 2 days and try out their latest dish which is lamb shank.

Is just a myself and two other friends who stuck here during Xmas weekend.  From the brochure and advertisement the picture of the lamb shank looks fantastic and so as the real thing.

They serve the lamb shank with 2 way of cooking which is sizzling or Mediterranean. The sizzling one is served in a hot plate with potatoes while the Mediterranean is served on a plate with rice. We all ordered the sizzling lamb shank and replace the potatoes with vegetables as we are on a low card diet.

The meat was cook nicely. It is easily removing the meat from the bone and the taste is good.  On top of that we also ordered calamari which is good as well. Overall Applebees serve tasty food and I wondering why my housemate don't like it.

The lamb shank cost QR 99. Is good for one person or shared with two if you have small appetite. QP staff have 10% discount of total bill.

The experience that night was great until we were being harassed by a group of customers... not to explain here but let bygones be bygones.

Makan Makan In Qatar - MRA Restaurant and Bakery

Had a vegetarian  buffet lunch today  at MRA. Their buffet have quite a number of dishes but due to today  I'm  on vegetarian diet so I have limited  choice. But then their selection  are not too bad. The taste of the food was splendid.

This is my first  time I have such a kind of buffet and I think it I won't  try it again not because of the food quality is just that I prefer ala  carte menu as I can have less portion of food and take the food that I prefer.

For those who enjoy Indian buffet lunch this is a good place to go.

Is available  everyday. QR 25 for weekday  and QR 30 for weekend.

Makan Makan In Qatar - MRA Restaurant and Bakery

Just a quick post of MRA BBQ  chicken is also known as Al  Faham  as per their menu.

The taste is good and texture is good but then I still will go for their tandoori  chicken as it is the best

Makan Makan In Qatar - MRA Restaurant and Bakery

Found a new Indian  restaurant last week. This restaurant  like any other Indian  restaurant serve variety  of food mainly from Northern  and southern Indian as well as various Chinese  food.

The food are remarkably good. What I  like most of about  this place and particularly  this  branch at Markiya is that it is comfortable and clean.  I don't have many pictures of the  food but here is pic of fish briyani  I had moment ago.

Woqod Al Hilal Expansion

Went to woqod for car wash this morning and I notice they have expanded at the area behind the car wash.  The expansion consists more car wash bay and cleaning bay and also a row of shop with some eateries such as subway

Makan Makan In Qatar - Restaurant Puti Bungsu Doha

Get to know about this restaurant last week. Is another restaurant open by a retired Malaysian and it emphasis on more Indonesian food and some Malaysian food.
I had their breakfast on that day which is  mee goreng, telur sambal and kari kambing and a cup of teh tarik. I would say the taste was pretty good. I would recommend it as an alternative to Holiday Villa Malaysian breakfast which only available on weekend but here is everyday.
This place open from 7am to 11pm as per their FB page and they also have variety of other stuff such as soto ayam, nasi pataya, tom yam and such.
Give it a try but be warned that the place is kinda small and could be crowded during the weekend.

Update 12/09/2014

Some new menu I encounter today, sardine roll, ayam kurma (chicken kurma) and lontong sayur

Makan Makan In Qatar - The Garden Village

Well this is not a new restaurant in Qatar as many who being at Qatar long enough would have know this. I been here couple of years ago but totally forgot about it.

This restaurant serve remarkable Indian food. They have plenty of varieties but I didn't try all as if you do then be prepare to gain some weight.

What I had that day was a clear soup and their tandoori chicken.  The clear soup was really clear and is like almost drinking plain water. There is some taste which I don't know what but I expected they would have put more chicken in it.

Anyway back to the tandoori chicken, it is really good and way much better than any tandoori I had back in Malaysia.  Although the price here is slightly higher than other smaller Indian restaurant in Doha but I think is stil reasonable due the cleanness and service.  I would try their banana leaf rice which happen every Friday lunch someday when I feel to gain some fats.

Makan Makan In Qatar - Tim Tam Chocolate

I'm not a chocolate fan or fan of chocolate as I dont really like food that are too sweet and especially this chocolate biscuit I'm talking about now.  TIM TAM. For a start it doesn't sound like some expensive chocolate like Ferrero and yet as I get to know from friends that tim tam is not cheap.

My housemate bought one home and I get to try it and surprisingly it is nice. Not overly sweet and is crunchy and I like the filling in middle as it tasted like ice cream.
It is somehow cheaper in Qatar compare Malaysia and yet Qatar have more flavor such as original, caramel, dark chocolate and doublr coat.  So far I tried double coat and dark chocolate and both are good.

You can get Tim Tam at Qatar at the Family Food Center and Lulu. It is better to buy at Lulu as it is a fraction cheaper and they carry all the flavor I just mentioned as FFC don't have much stock.

Makan Makan In Qatar - Java U

Found a new chain coffee shop in Qatar which is called Java U. It origin from the land of maple leaves; Canada.

I like the deco in the shop and as well as their coffee and dessert. It is a good place to hang out and meet up friends. They have quite a big range of coffee and juices and some of it have weird name and so I do not what it is actually..

So far I had their salad, cakes and coffee and it is good except for the red velvet cake that I had which is a bit too sweet.

Give it a try!

Makan Makan In Qatar - Yee Hwa Restaurant Japanese Buffet

As promise I will talk about Yee Hwa Japanese buffet... and so the Japanese Buffet concept is the same as the Korean BBQ buffet where they serve unlimited Japanese food on the buffet menu.

It is a bit hard for me to get used to it as unlike Japanese buffet in Malaysia, the goodies are presented nicely on the island table and we can take as much as we like (make sure finish)  and only to special dishes are required to order such as baked scallop.

At Yew Hwa they do not have many selection on their buffet menu, mostly and sushi rolls and few options on sashimi. At first I thought this might be worth it but then it just so so and probably I wont go there for another buffet. Anyhow here are the pics of "most" of the food we order.

The only thing I like is all their rolls have a very thin layer of rice and a lot of stuffing like tuna fish and etc.

see the thin layer of rice and a thick slice of tuna fish

Makan Makan In Qatar - Eh Dehleez

Eh Dehleez is one of my favorite Arabic restaurant. I was told they are from Iranian by a friend but I am suspecting he probably confuse with another restaurant beside it call Iranian dessert as people here normal point to a direction to a landmark that are easy to remember or recognize.

Anyway, so far I think I had the best chicken mendi at this place as not only the chicken is juicy and tender but the rice is so fragrant. Second or taking the same spot as the best food here is their lamb chop which is delicious. The meat are so tender and herbs added to the meat are nice.

Not too long ago I try their lamb mendi, well it is not as good as I was hoping as the meat from the lamb is kinda tough to chew on but it still not too bad. So if you happen to be there do pick up their lamb chop and chicken mendi and also grill chicken.

Makan Makan in Qatar - Yee Hwa Restaurant

Just a quick update of information. I was passing by that restaurant as I was going to Java U to buy some salad. So it has been long time since my last update about Yee Hwa and I was wondering if they still serve buffet and so I went in and ask about it...

And so they still do and the price has remain the same but I not sure what they serve on the buffet as I didn't like the Korean BBQ as it is mostly meat which I want to reduce from eating it.

On Sunday night they have Korean and Sushi Buffet
Monday and Wednesday night is the usual Korean BBQ Buffet
Friday noon is the family buffet

All of them are priced at QR123 for adults which is a very good deal. Although Doha Downtown Hotel location is not at the prime area such as West Bay or The Pearl but the hotel is pretty much comparable to those 5 start hotel for example Wyndham Grand Regency.

I am planning to try out their Sushi buffet sometime soon so stay tune for the feedback.

Bon Appetite!
