I got my Qatar driving license today. It is pretty much the same as Malaysia, you need to driving school and took the exam. Expat from certain country can have a direct conversion but Malaysian you cant no more. They used to allow it but somehow and not sure why the privilege has been removed.
What Malaysian can do now is to have a direct test without going to driving school but that you need some help from the translator that we call them back home. Here are the details step.
1) Wait till you resident permit or work permit and prepare 2 photo.
2) Local driving license translated to English. Only certain driving school need this, so depend on your luck.
3) When you arrive at Qatar and doing your medical checkup remember to tell the nurse that you want to go for driving test. She will give a form and fill in the eye test result for you.
4) Your company may also issue a company sponsor letter and several other document.
5) Go to Madinat Khalifa traffic department, there you will meet the translator.
6) The translator will bring you to see the officer to get approval so that you can go for direct test.
7) The officer will approve it and on top of that he will state in the document which driving school you need to go.
8) I was send to Al Khebra driving school it is far away but one good thing is less people.
9) You got 2 way to complete this, either you continue ask the translator to help you till the end or you can go to the driving school and settle yourself but my suggestion is ask them as they can talk to them in Arabic so that it is easier for you.
10) Once reach the driving school, the translator will then talk to the captain and you just follow whatever that it come to you and you go made your payment.
Here is the cost of getting the license
Registration - QAR 50
License - QAR 250 for 5 years
Driving Test - QAR 150
